Welcome to our department!
Anthropology is the discipline devoted to the study of the human species. Its broad charter covers biological, social, linguistic, and archaeological investigations. There are four major subdisciplines each including a wide range of geographical and theoretical specializations. The subdisciplines are cultural anthropology, archaeology, biological anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. Although the "four fields" differ substantially in terms of approach and methodology, all have as their central goal the understanding of distinctive characteristics of human beings such as the construction of unique cultures, the development and use of symbolic codes, and the use of culturally programmed behaviors in interaction with the social and natural environments.
