Tenure Track Position in Cultural Anthropology
University of California, Riverside. The Department of Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track position in cultural anthropology at the assistant professor level, beginning July 1, 2008. Ph.D. in Anthropology is required. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. This position is concerned with anthropological approaches to transnational communities that have one of their bases in Southern California, with foci on their geographic, demographic, sociocultural, and political-economic contexts and internal dynamics. Of interests are the dynamics of national, ethnic, gender, and racial identity formation within such communities, as they are shaped within and by their transnational contexts. Types of transnational communities that are of interest range from those of impoverished migrant workers to wealthy multinational capitalists and entrepreneurs, although primary concern is with the former. This position articulates with interests in Latin American Studies, Global Studies, Women’s Studies, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, Religious Studies, and SEATRiP in CHASS as well as with programs in the Graduate School of Education, the Blakely Center, UC-MEXUS, the Presley Center, and potentially Public Policy. Tenure Track Position in Critical Political Ecology
University of California, Riverside. The Department of Anthropology
invites applications for a tenure-track position in critical political ecology at the assistant professor level, beginning July 1,
2008. Ph.D. in Anthropology is required. Salary will be commensurate
with education and experience. This position focuses on critical
political ecology, coupled with environmental studies and
international development; human-environment relationships; and land
use and distribution. This can include issues such as social
discrimination, spatial segregation, urban violence, and human agency
and rights in the context of transformed natural and built
environments, including degraded, devastated, or threatened ones;
within that context, concerns with environmental recovery,
sustainable food and energy production, and environmental justice are
strongly encouraged. The position articulates with interests in the
Health Initiative, Public Policy, Economics, Ethnic Studies,
Religious Studies, Sociology, History, Women's Studies, and Global
Studies in CHASS and the Center for Conservation Biology in CNAS. It
potentially articulates with the concerns of UC-MEXUS as well as the
various organized research units on campus, e.g. CCERT, the Presley
Center, the Genomics Institute, and the Blakely Center for
